Annual Report 2018-19

Annual Report 2018-19

Today, we are very happy to place before you a comprehensive report that identifies and analyzes the forces that affect the future of our college. Our current academic year started on 1st August 2018. It has been another exciting year at our College with so many highlights:

During the current academic year, the intake of B. Optometry is 40 and M.Optometry program is 10. With this, Ph.D. in optometry intake is 4. As of now, there are 4 Ph.D. candidates. All our programs run under the banner of Shree Ambika Niketan Trust, Parle point, Surat. The Institute is affiliated to Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat from the academic year 2011. Our institute has been declared as IACLE resource centre in 2014-15 by Australian organization (International Association of Contact Lenses Educators, Australia.)

The Institute has about 160 optometry students and more than 20 teaching staff ably supported by about 15 non teaching technical and non-technical staff. About 80 students stay in the college Hostels.

The College library has a collection of about 1000 books. It subscribes to 8 Magazines and Journals and 2 newspapers. The library committee changed the seating arrangement in the library to create space and to allow in more light and air. It set up an audio-visual section and placed order for DVDs. The computer and internet facilities are available to the teachers, students and the library staff within the library itself. On the demand of the students, CCTV camera was installed.

It has two Labs with Wi-Fi and projector facility. Wi-Fi based connectivity is available for the staff and the students in the administration section, some class- rooms and in the library. Login IDs have been issued to all the students and faculty members.

Fresher's Welcome Party was organised in November, 2018. On this occasion, Mr & Miss Fresher Contest was also organised. Selection to the Students' Union General Secretary was also held on January.

As the demand for eyecare services grows, the supply to meet that demand will come mostly from optometry. The ranks of ophthalmologists will remain relatively static over the next decade, while optometrists will increase in number. At the same time, optometric practices have excess capacity, allowing them to capture the growing number of comprehensive eye exams and medical eyecare services. Eye exams are viewed by most optometrists as a prime factor in growing their practices as a business.

We hope you will come away from annual report with a greater understanding of the challenges we face-and the beginnings of a practical plan to meet them on your road to success. We firmly believe that with knowledge, vision and determination, the practice of optometry will continue to thrive!

All this has become possible by the great support from the Management. I thank our trust Shree Rupendrasinh Makwana, all the Governing council and university members, our faculty and staff members and very cooperative and well disciplined student friends for their excellent cooperation and involvement in all the college level activities.

I thank everyone connected with this Institute for all their support.

Thanks one and all.
